The family of a "loving and affectionate" 13-year-old boy are devastated after finding out he has brain cancer.

Arnold "Arnie" Chappin was diagnosed two weeks ago after his parents, Ruth and Brett Chappin, noticed he kept falling over and limping.

Originally from Over Hulton and Walkden, the family took the 13-year-old to hospital in Cambridge, and a diagnosis revealed Arnie to have an aggressive brain tumour that cannot be removed be surgery.

His uncle Samuel Icke, who still lives in Over Hulton, set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding page, which has raised £89,000 in just three days, to give Arnie the experiences of life before his time.

It will also help the family move back into Greater Manchester to be supported by loved ones.

Samuel said: “We are all devastated really and in shock.

“We have a lot of anxiety of what’s to come.

“We have had to tell him as well over the weekend and he knows all of it because we were up front with it.

"Arnie is a such a loving and affectionate boy who is hilarious and full of life."

Arnie will have radiation treatment and may be eligible for a new biopsy treatment.

Samuel added “Arnie is strong and still has a good sense of humour despite being scared and anxious.

“He keeps saying he is blessed to have family around him."

Arnie’s favourite rapper Jordan McCann wants to bring him to the studio and the youngster wants to ride in an Audi R8 among other cool car things.

And comedian Jason Manford also shared the post on social media to highlight the GoFundMe appeal.

Arnie and his family are looking to move closer to the family after he has completed four weeks of treatment.

The money will also help the family as they can no longer work as a therapist and electrician due to looking after Arnie along with six other children.
