A series of fly-tipping sites have been cleared up over the past week, with residents encouraged to report other similar incidents in future.

The sites were cleared on Newton Walk, off Halliwell Road and Walnut Street, both in the Halliwell area, by Bolton at Home and Bolton Council officers.

This comes amid recurring complaints about rubbish being left at various locations around the borough in recent months.

Cllr Kevin Morris, who represents the area on the council, said: "It has been personally great to see all our recently reported fly-tips to Bolton at Home and Bolton Council that have blighted local areas in the ward removed within a specific time.

“I would like on behalf of myself, Cllr Rabiya Jiva and Cllr Safwaan Patel to thank these dedicated teams who are removing all this and who do a sterling job in our ward and also to thank our local enforcement teams who work alongside us.”

The clean ups this week saw old fridges removed from both locations as well as abandoned tyres and various other kinds of rubbish.

It comes not long after other recent cases of fly-tipping in the same area when another old fridge was found dumped off Brookdale Close last week before being removed.

This is turn was picked up on after fly tipping and public hygiene was raised as a particular area of concern after a meeting between the police, members of the public and council representatives.

Cllr Morris has encouraged members of the public to continue flagging up concerns like these.

He said: “On our daily walk rounds we have seen at first hand numerous fly tips and dumped waste.

“All three Halliwell councillors are determined to tackle this problem to the best of our abilities as it is such a big issue for our residents.

“We will continue to monitor certain grot spots and we will continue to ask residents to be vigilant and report any fly tipping, etc through the right channels.

“We are all passionate about our environment and our ward and we are all committed to getting Halliwell cleaned up."
