Where would you like Manchester transport to whisk you off this summer?
Wherever the destination, the journey is key.
That’s why the government is stepping in to better protect our local transport services, backed by £18 million to ensure stability and reliability right across Greater Manchester.
The new funding for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) will enable our vast transport network to operate more efficiently and deliver on value for money.
Set to last until the end of March 2024, the additional funding follows more than £400million being provided for Greater Manchester’s local transport network through numerous transport schemes since March 2020.
This is in addition to £1.07 billion through City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements (CRSTS), £39.7 million for active travel schemes and £19.87million through Levelling Up Funds for transport.
Bolton deserves to be at the heart of these improvements.
Since I was elected in 2019, I’ve been campaigning to extend the Metrolink tram to Bolton. The rest of Greater Manchester has the tram, and as one of the biggest towns, why on earth don’t we?
A Metrolink extension to Bolton would boost house prices, draw in investment and help create a Bolton fit for the 21st century.
Just think of the opportunities for employment, education and connectivity.
I have already secured a feasibility study to assess the scope of the plans and I will continue interrogate transport investment as these plans progress.
I'm always keen to hear your views on transport and connectivity in Bolton, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
