A motorcyclist has died in a crash in Bolton
The 27-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene after crashing into a barrier.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police said the man was travelling along Moss Bank Way between 10.40pm and 11.10pm when he was involved in a collision with a barrier on Moss Bank Way, between Captains Clough Road and Halliwell Road."
The road was shut throughout today as police carried out investigations into the crash.
It has now reopened.
Traffic was diverted away from the road at Captains Clough Road and at Smithills Dean Road.
There have been a number of crashes in the area prompting concerns and calls for action to be taken to make the roads safer for all users.
The cause of this crash is under investigation and is not know.
But following other crashes in the area councillors are exploring what can be done.
Cllr Kevin Morris, who represents the nearby Halliwell ward, said: “A young lad has lost his life in very sad and tragic circumstances.
“We do not know the full circumstances.
“We have been doing work on Halliwell Road nearby with residents and have got a petition about speeding.”
Another nearby resident said she was worried about roads.
She said: "Drivers around here do go very fast.
"The police need to put more speed restrictions in.
"I did not see the crash but my daughter had to take a different way into school, that's how I found out about it."
But another said police had done a lot of work to control the speeds on Moss Bank Way.
She said: "I have seen police there doing camera checks just after Forest Road when it goes from a 40mph to a 30mph.
"I have seen a difference, people have slowed down, I would say that has been in the last 12 months.
"Church Road is a really bad road though, family members have had their cars crashed into multiple times there."
Moss Bank Way was closed between the junction of Captains Clough Road and Halliwell Road while investigations are underway.
A police spokesman said: “Anyone with any information about this incident, or any dashcam/CCTV footage from the area at the time, should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 4642 of 14/06/2023.”
The Greater Manchester and Fire Service said they were not called to the scene.
The North West Ambulance Service has been approached for a comment.
