A rotary club in Bolton held a rubber duck race to raise money for charity.
The Rotary Club of Turton held their annual duck race at Bradshaw Brook, Bradshaw on Sunday, June 11.
This was the first race held since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and was a 'resounding success', with just over £13,000 raised in ticket sales and event sponsorship.
Around 30 local charities got involved, selling tickets for their own charity or organisation.
Jim Turner, club member and event promoter, said: "This year we managed to get a number of new charities on board as well as those who have been involved for many years.
"It is a great, simple way for any charity or organisation to raise funds. They get to keep 100% of all the funds raised themselves, with none being retained by the club.
"We are delighted that so many people have supported this event and we are heartened to know that so many local people will benefit from it.
"On behalf of the club I would like to give our grateful thanks to all our sponsors, in particular our main sponsor Julie Taylor from Travel Counsellors, to representatives from our sister club Bolton Lever who have been great support, and to Bolton FM who supported us on the weeks running up to the event and came and did a live broadcast on the day."
James Lea, from sponsor Lea Scaffolding and Access Ltd, won the £1,000 first prize. The day attracted a sizeable crowd to cheer on the ducks.
As in previous years, a children’s race was also run, with more than 100 entries with five cash prizes. It was won by a young boy called Layton.
