Town hall chiefs have ordered IX Wireless to remove an advertising banner.
It comes as several people complained of the IX Wireless 6G pole on Prince Street in Bolton.
Residents claimed the banner breached advertising rules, which Bolton Council agreed with and have now told the company - which has proved to be controversial in Bolton with its installation of wooden poles throughout the borough - to take down the banners.
The banners show a 6G logo ‘celebrating the Coronation of King Charles' with the 6G logo printed on it.
Marek Kamella from Bolton, and who leads the Residents Against IX Wireless Facebook group, said: “The banners are in addition to the A4 notices and are so blatant that the council cannot consider them as anything other than adverts.
“It's another way in which this company ride roughshod over the community all in their own self interests.
“We're glad the council agree with us that this is an advert as every wooden pole this company has erected in our town has an A4 advert stapled to it, but the council insist this is an information notice and not an advert.”
IX Wireless have come under fire recently for all their poles dotted around Bolton, where neighbours complain of the location and eyesores. Some residents say there had been no consultation over where they were installed.
The company does not need planning permission to install the poles, but locations can be altered if notice is given.
Advertisements, however, are not allowed anywhere on the poles, but information sheets are permitted.
A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “The council was made aware of advertisements attached to telegraph poles on Prince Street.
“Following a site visit, officers have written to the owners of the telegraph poles requesting the adverts be removed by the end of this month.
“A follow-up visit will take place to confirm the items have been removed.”
IX Wireless now have until June 30 to remove the banners with advertising on any poles.
Cllr for Labour Akhtar Zaman said: “I have had a number of calls and complaints to me on the internet poles in Bolton.
“A lot of people object to this but it is something they already have permission for.
“However, it is good that they are removing the advertising as if something is not allowed, it should not happen.
“It is at least something we can do something about and control.”
