A headteacher has spoken of her delight after her school received a first class report.
St William of York Catholic Primary School in Great Lever was found by Ofsted to continue to be a ‘good’ school but would be ‘outstanding’ if a graded inspection took place.
"Good" and "outstanding" schools often receive ungraded inspections like the Nugent Road school.
While inspectors stated it continues to be "good", they have stated “there was enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding if they were to carry out a graded inspection now”.
And now Headteacher Clare Lightbown has shared her delight.
She said: “We are delighted with the way the report captures our vision, values and ethos and how welcoming and happy our school really is – children do flourish here.
“St William’s received an ungraded inspection, so although the overall previous grade of ‘good’ could not be changed, there was enough evidence that had the school received a graded inspection, it would have been judged as 'outstanding'.
“We are obviously delighted with this outcome, but it is the content of the inspection that we are most proud of.
“We are a diverse, Catholic school and the respect the children have for each other and the community as a whole, shone through in this inspection.
“The report notes that the children have impeccable manners and are considerate of others, which is an accurate reflection of our positive, cohesive and happy school environment.
“We are very proud of our pupils.
“We are fortunate to have an incredibly talented and committed staff team and a supportive and highly effective Governing Board.
“A special thanks to our parents and families with whom we have strong and trusting relationships; these positive partnerships help us to ensure that every individual succeeds and thrives here.”
Within the report it stated, “pupils love attending this school” and “they flourish”.
It states: "Pupils said that if they tried to list the reasons why the school is special, it would take forever.
“Leaders have created an environment of mutual respect and kindness.
“The warm relationships between staff and pupils shine through their interactions.
“Pupils feel safe and happy.”
