Drug dealing outside a primary school and issues with off-road bikers were raised at  meeting in Westhoughton.

Residents, councillors and police officer staged their regular meeting to find out out the issues affecting residents.

The meeting was held at The Hub on Central Street, attended by councillors Alison Jackson, Arthur Price, Ryan Hough

There were three Police Community Support Officers also in attendance

The main concerns raised included young people riding bikes on fields and parks and open drug dealing even outside a primary school.

The police shared what they will be doing to address these concerns.

Cllr Jackson said: “Residents are really worried and intimidated by young people riding scramblers bikes on fields, parks and even a local nature reserve.

“The police will look at the specific areas mentioned.

“A notice prohibiting riding a motorised bike outside such places counts as a first warning then the police can seize and destroy the bikes.

“Hopefully some new action will follow soon.

“Other concerns discussed were open drug dealing even near a primary school, speeding and illegal parking.

“I'm sure lots of people have seen parking on yellow lines and even on zig zags near crossings which can be a danger on the roads.

“I would encourage people to come along to future police surgeries if they have concerns, they want the police to know about.

“They are very responsive, and the meetings are very informal.”
