A crash has caused major disruption to broadband and phone services in Bromley Cross and there is no date set for when repair can begin.

The smash on Sunday night caused "extensive damage" to the broadband cabinet on Turton Road.

One residents said that they believe it could be three weeks before services are restored.

Police declined to comment on the crash.

A spokesperson for  Openreach confirmed that the broadband cabinet needs to be replaced and reconnected.

The provider has said that repair work is unable to start until checks for power, gas, and high-pressure water have been carried out.

But he  assured the community that repairs will be completed as “quickly as possible”.

A spokesperson for Openreach: “A road traffic accident  caused extensive damage to part of our network and is disrupting phone and broadband services to some local people.

“The broadband cabinet - which needs to be completely replaced and reconnected - requires verification to ensure it is not in the vicinity of a ‘Zone of Interest’, which means repair work can’t start until checks for power, gas, and high-pressure water have been completed.

“Once those checks are done and we’re given permission to start work our engineers will complete the repairs as quickly as possible. We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.”

The resident said: “A car crashed on Turton Road knocking internet out for everyone in the area.

“It could be three weeks before it’s back on.”

And the crash has prompted renewned calls to make the road safer.

The resident raised concerns over accidents taking place at the crossing towards ROKKA Mediterranean Restaurant & Bar, with them also claiming they saw a pedestrian crossing just before the car crashed.

“I’ve seen kids nearly knocked over loads of times down Turton Road and especially at the crossing towards ROKKA Mediterranean Restaurant & Bar.

“Many people have complained about the situation, but absolutely nothing has been done.

“Moments before the car crashed a pedestrian was crossing right there.”

The site is estimated to be cleared by May 26.
