The new Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Mohammed Ayub, is set to be welcomed to his new role during the Civic Sunday Parade this weekend.
The procession will leave Victoria Square at 10.30am and make its way to the Parish Church via Hotel Street, Mealhouse Lane, Deansgate, across Bradshawgate, and down to Churchgate for the 11am service.
The parade will be commanded by Bolton’s local 216 Battery of the 103rd Regiment of the Royal Artillery, our local territorial unit, who will be joined by other groups and organisations.
Cllr Ayub will be the first Bolton Mayor of Kashmiri origin and is exceptionally proud to be Bolton’s First Citizen.
Cllr Ayub has chosen his wife Zaibun Nisa of 45 years to be his Mayoress.
He said: “I feel very honoured to have been chosen to represent the people of Bolton; it’s the greatest honour of my life.
“Bolton has a lot to offer and has immense potential.
“Over the next 12 months I look forward to raising the profile of Bolton and meeting people from all walks of life.”
During his time as Mayor, he will be raising funds for his three chosen charities: Our Bolton NHS charity, 12th Bolton (Rosehill) Scout Group, and Bolton Deaf Society.
