Two houses could be demolished along with car washes and replaced with a 'service station' with a drive-thru coffee shop.
Plans have been submitted for a new roadside service facility which along with a drive- thru coffee shop, will have three commercial units on Manchester Road, Westhoughton.
The plans have been submitted by Racheal Bamford of ADS Design on behalf of applicant Amaj Ltd which propose to demolish two empty dwellings at 544-546 Manchester Road and car wash structures and the "enhancement of the existing roadside services through construction of a drive thru coffee shop" and extension of the existing petrol filling station kiosk to form three commercial units at Mercury Service Station, Manchester Road, Westhoughton, BL5 3JP.
Within the application revised parking arrangements are also proposed including a new substation to serve the site and the provision of two electric charging bays.
The site currently has 18 spaces but, in the proposals, they are seeking 11 more spaces.
The submitted layout drawing indicates that the existing petrol filling station kiosk and forecourt canopy will be retained, with all other existing buildings and structures to be demolished.

The proposed coffee shop - the operator which is as yet unkown - will have an internal public seating area as well as toilet facilities.
The commercial units will be constructed using brickwork to match the existing petrol filling station building and extension.
Under the plans, the development, according to the applicant would create up to 25 jobs, ten full-time and 15 part-time in addition to those currently employed at the service station.
And there will be additional jobs associated to the construction of the development.
The plan application states: “The proposed drive-thru coffee shop and retail space will be ancillary to the main fuel sales function of the site, and whilst end users are not known at the time of submission, uses could include food to go offers such as Subway or Greggs.”
Although the operator of the coffee shop is unknown, Starbucks revealed recently it would be opening more than 100 new coffee shops across the UK.
It is spending more than £30million on the stores after a jump in sales.
As part of these plans the company will be refurbishing its existing sites.
According to the applicant, the development will not operate in direct competition with Westhoughton Town Centre, there will be no significant noise impact from operation of the proposed coffee shop and the opening hours which have been proposed are between the hours of 6am and 11pm.
