A man has been charged after a crash on the M66 which left a mum fighting for her life and three children in hospital.

On Saturday at around 3.10pm, police were called to reports of a crash between two vehicles on the M66 southbound between Pilsworth Interchange and Simister Island.

A 38-year-old woman, Frankie Hough, of Chadderton, and three children including her sons Rocky and Tommy, and her nephew, Tobias, have been left with serious injuries.

Frankie’s injures are believed to be life-threatening, while Tommy and Tobias are in induced comas.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has charged Adil Iqbal, 22, on suspicion of three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Iqbal, of Hope Street, Accrington, has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today, Monday, May 15.

On Sunday, Sergeant Matt Waggett, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the members of the public who selflessly helped at the scene and called 999, as well as those who assisted when police and emergency services arrived on scene.

“I urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please come forward and share any footage, dashcam or mobile footage, with police.

“No matter how small you think it is, it could prove vital to our investigation.”
