An elderly man’s garden has been spruced up with lawn treatments to help revamp it after his cancer treatment and his wife becoming unwell.
Yakub Chhadat, from Bolton, was chosen to receive a year’s worth of free lawn treatments from firm GreenThumb to help revamp his much-loved garden that he has struggled to maintain since becoming a full-time carer to his unwell wife.
GreenThumb will be treating Mr Chhadat’s lawn as part of its Share The Lawn Love campaign which will now see them treat more than 160 lawns nationwide, free of charge this year.
Nominated by his niece, Mr Chhadat will now benefit from a garden transformation that will help him to reclaim the outdoor space he so often enjoyed with his wife before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease aged just 72.
Mr Chhadat, who only recently finished cancer treatment himself, has been caring for his wife and not been able to keep up with garden upkeep in the process.
He said: “We are so pleased to have been successfully selected for the GreenThumb Share the Lawn Love Campaign.
“Having GreenThumb look after our lawn will really help brighten up our garden and take a weight off our shoulders knowing our lawn is in the best hands. I would definitely recommend.”
Their garden was once both his and his wife’s pride and joy and so Mr Chhadat is thrilled to have some help in order to restore it to its former glory and hopefully evoke fond memories of the couple’s wonderful time together outdoors.
GreenThumb managing director Paul Edwards added: “With everything that’s happening in the world outside our control, more and more people are turning to their gardens, local green spaces and nature for quite literal grounding.
“We’re proud to be able to help local people just like Mr Yakub, at a time when transforming lawns into green sanctuaries will have an even greater impact on the wellbeing of the recipients.”
Family and friends nominating their loved ones was the most common occurrence GreenThumb saw, with almost three quarters keen to give back to those closest to them for a whole host of heart-warming reasons.
