Plans to revamp one of Bolton’s most historic town centre pubs could be set to take another step forward.
Earlier this year a proposal had been announced to remake a Yates, housed in a Grade II listed building on Bradshawgate, into a new Slug and Lettuce bar.
Developers have given the public a glimpse of how the pub could look after work is finished with plans lodged for new Slug and Lettuce signage.
A statement from the designers said: “Our design team has looked at all aspects of creating a signage scheme to suit the Grade II listed building.
“We have always been aware to produce a design concept that compliments the surrounding conservation area and is sympathetic to the listed building.
“We feel the simple design compliments the building.”
The Bradshawgate site was first built in 1906 and was classed as a listed building in 1999 meaning that new developments need to ensure that its heritage is preserved and that Historic England is consulted.
The broader revamping of the building was announced in January by Yates’ parent company the Stonegate Group, which said it could be part of a major investment in the site.
The company has been considering the revamp because they deem the Slug and Lettuce brand to be "more contemporary and popular" than the site’s previous occupants.
If it does so then the plans will also include changes to the inside of the building including the removal of a podium and stage, installing new timber rafts and seating booths as well as adding to new casing to the staircase.

The new timber rafts and seating booths will be in keeping with Slug and Lettuce features all over the country.
This could prove to be a key new development for Bolton’s night time economy, with other similar developments in the area including the redevelopment of the long vacant Bar Metro coming along side it.
The most recent plans for the new signage were put before Bolton Council last week on Thursday May 4, with the council’s planning department aiming to decide whether or not to approve them by Thursday, June 29.
