A school has generously raised thousands of pounds for the children’s ward at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Staff and students from Kings Leadership Academy have amassed  £2,800 in total with the funds to be used to pay for the ward's first medical gaming cart.

The gaming cart will be expected to benefit more than 2,000 young patients each year, having a sustainable and meaningful impact on patients.

The Bolton academy held their very own “Kings Winter Wonderland” fundraising fair to help raise funds for Our Bolton NHS Charity and the E5 ward.

The event was well attended and included an international food market hosted by students and their families.

The winter fair also included a variety performance show and various workshops and a "Pie the teacher stall".

Kings Academy SLT member Ben Jones said: “As a school we were blown away by the generosity of pupils, staff, and parents in raising proceeds towards the donation for Royal Bolton Hospital.

“We hope it is the start of a long and prosperous relationship between King’s Bolton and our partners in the wider community.

“One of our core values as a school is leadership, and the proudest thing for me as a member of staff was witnessing the incredible effort, generosity, and kindness on display at our Winter Wonderland event."

Staff thanked the students and staff for their generosity and presented them with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the charity and E5 ward.

Acute paediatrics matron Andy Butler said: “I was absolutely blown away by the huge amount of money raised by the pupils and teachers of Kings Leadership Academy in Bolton who hosted their inaugural Winter Wonderland event to raise funds for the children’s ward.

“The fact that they raised nearly £3,000 in one evening shows what a fantastic event it was and how kind and generous every was that attended, and we are forever grateful as we look to by a gaming cart for the ward which will be used for years to come.

“Massive thanks from myself, the family care division, and the trust for the generosity.”
