A man has been charged with attempted murder after a 23-year-old woman was attacked in Bolton.

Police were called to reports of an attack on a woman on Crossdale Road in Breightmet at around 2.25am on Sunday morning.

The woman was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Today, Connor Phelps, 25, of Crossdale Road, Bolton has been charged with attempted murder.

He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday 9 May).

In a statement released on Sunday, DS Neil Moss of Bolton CID said: "This was an horrific attack which has left a young woman in hospital with serious injuries.

"We are continuing our investigations to establish the full circumstances of the events and there is increased police activity in the community to provide reassurance.

"I want to appeal to anyone who may have CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage from Crossdale Road at the time of the incident to get in touch with us.

"I also urge anyone who may have found themselves in a threatening situation with a man within the Breightmet area of Bolton to get in touch with us.
