A tennis club is serving up a whole host of events to celebrate a landmark anniversary.

Lostock Tennis club celebrates its centenary year and is inviting members, past and present, to join in the activities.

The tennis club, on Regent Road, was founded in 1923.

A family fun day and a 1923 themed event are among the events taking place to celebrate the anniversary.

A spokesperson for the club said: “The club would love to hear from any past members who would like to get back in touch, perhaps attend an event or just pop in for a nostalgic visit, maybe to check out whether their name is still there on the Honours Board.

"It is a far cry from the club’s modest beginnings.

"Lostock has been a stalwart supporter over the years of the Bolton Sports Federation Tennis League, and continues to be so, currently fielding fourteen teams weekly across the various summer events, men’s, ladies, mixed and junior leagues.

“The club also supports the prestigious annual Bolton Tournament (formally The Charity tournament) by loaning their courts for the weeklong event.”

Over the years the club has undergone changes, with the courts having had different surfaces - shale, painted tarmac and artificial grass.

And the clubhouse has been extended and refurbished over the years.

In just the last five years the facilities have been transformed with a modern kitchen, upgraded changing rooms, new viewing areas, and outside five Tiger Turf courts with state-of-the-art floodlights.

Several celebratory events are planned throughout the year, from tournaments dressed in a 1923 style and barbecues, to the November Centenary Ball.

To start this summer season of celebration Lostock will be hosting a family fun open day on Sunday, May 14 from 1p.m-5pm.

There will be free tennis activities for all age groups and abilities with coach Tom Luke and the team, as well as a bar and refreshments available, and special membership offers for new members.

All are invited and can drop in during the afternoon to try their hand at the game or book on a specific session, ring 07503721252.
