Staff and residents at a Ramsbottom care home have pledged to walk 5km last month to help raise money for Parkinson’s UK.

As part of a "walk-a-thon" campaign at Lavender Hills Care Home on Stubbins Vale Road, staff and residents pledged to walk 5km a month to raise awareness for charities of their choice.

On April 11, the team began their walk-a-thon campaign and managed to complete 1.5km of their goal along Tottington Lines.

And their target distance was firmly in sight following a 2km trek through Waterfoot’s Railway Tunnels.

Peter, a resident at Lavender Hills Care Home, said: “It was just what the doctor ordered! It was so nice to get out with nice people.”

In April, the team opted to back Parkinson’s UK as its preferred charitable organisation.

Home manager at Lavender Hills Care Home, Kala Morton, said: “I recognise that residents love the outdoors and as a team, we encourage staff to join residents’ activities and come up with new, innovative ideas to support the wellbeing of everyone in the home.

“We chose Parkinson’s UK because it’s Parkinson’s month and we want our residents with the disease to feel supported and valued in everything that we do.”

Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination.

Parkinson’s UK hope that by funding the right research into the most promising treatments, they can find a cure to the disease.
