A Coronation Street was certainly in the right 'plaice' to bag himself a portion of chips when he performed an officially opening.
Andy Whyment, who can currently be seen in I'm a Celebrity....South Africa, opened The Walkden Bar, formerly known as Steves, after a refurbishment.
The chippy first opened in 1985.
The Walkden Road chippy has been passed down through the generations, with current owner Demetrious Demetriou having taken on the mantle from his father, Steve.
The chippy closed to allow it to be refurbished for the first time in 20 years.
Special guest, Coronation Street favourite Andy, who plays Kirk Sutherland, cut the ribbon at its reopening.
Demetrious said: “It’s 20 years old, the shop, since we last refurbished and it needed a fresh look.
“It’s just come the time things are getting old, the range was getting older.
“After 20 years it was due, we thought the time was right.”
He continued: “The refurbishment took us two weeks. We got it back to brick in five hours between all of us who work there.
“People worked on the shop, some were customers, friends of ours, so a massive thanks to them. We didn’t get let down by anyone.
“We got our new range from Mallinson’s of Oldham, everything around it has got neon lights, so we thought we would do the décor around that.
“It’s been really good, really positive from customers, they all like the changes, the new look. It’s been really positive from everyone.”
Demetrious added: “It was good, Andy came down from Coronation Street, he is a regular customer and I asked if he wouldn’t mind coming down.
“It was nice to do the ribbon cutting, to cap it off.”
