A road described as being at the end of its lifespan is to be resurfaced.

Dobb Brow Road in Westhoughton is set to be resurfaced between the end of May and early June.

Cllr David Wilkinson said the work has been needed for some time and he hopes other roads will also be improved in the future.

Cllr Wilkinson said: “You only have to be driving for five minutes and you will realise there are lots of roads in the area which are in a bad way.

“Unfortunately, Dobb Brow Road has patches and patches and patches and it’s got to the end of its life.

“So, we had a bit of money in the Westhoughton South Ward Areas Forum budget, and we scraped a bit here and a bit there and we were able to get it done.

“The road is completely knackered.”

Cllr Wilkinson said he understands the frustrations of residents as many roads have potholes in the area – but himself and residents are pleased work is being done on Dobbs Brow.

He said: “I know we have potholes in many roads but that is one of the roads which has died a death.

“Residents seem quite pleased that it is going to be done and I wish I could give more good news to residents like that, but things are extremely difficult.

“I’m really pleased it is being resurfaced because it is one less to worry about.

“There is probably about another 30 or 40 streets in similar, well, in varying degrees of deterioration but it is one down and of course Hoskers Nook was another one of the roads to be done as we have made this money stretch.

“It is unbelievable the cost of road construction nowadays, it is absolutely frightening.”
