A Crime Scene Investigation van has been called out to Bolton this evening.
Police vehicles were seen at Hill Top, Little Lever, at around 6pm on Monday April 17 with a CSI van and a police car both reported to have been parked opposite a field on the road that is mainly made up of housing.
But no cordon was no place nor was there a heavy police presence and Greater Manchester Police have assured the public that they were not aware of any serious incidents in progress in the area as of Monday evening.
A spokesperson said: “We have no critical or ongoing incidents reported in the area around Hill Top Lane in Little Lever.
“It may be that more information is reported by officers later on that will be available in the morning.”
Residents did not appear to be aware of any emergencies that had taken place that evening, but had expressed concerns about why officers had been called out that evening.
Cllr Sean Hornby, who represents Little Lever on Bolton Council, said that he had heard reports about police on the scene from passersby and that he intended to investigate and help answer queries people may have.
He said: "Clearly residents are concerned because if Crime Scene Investigators are on the scene then something must have taken place somewhere.
"A number of people have contacted me saying that they have seen something going on so I will be taking the time to investigate and provide reassurance to the residents."
Greater Manchester Police have explained that CSI units can be called out for a wide variety of reasons related to their investigations even if an ongoing incident or emergency is not underway at the time.
A small group of officers had left the scene on Hill Top by shortly after 7pm, not long after they had first been called out.
Anyone with any concerns or any further information about this or any other suspected incidents in their areas can contact police on 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
