A charity working with older people in Bolton is hosting a party days before King Charles III’s official coronation.

With 60 people in attendance, the Halliwell Befriending Service is excited to be celebrating the historic event, with the event taking place on Thursday, May 4, two days before the coronation.

There will be a buffet, games and lots of fun on the day for people to get involved with.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “We are having a party with 60 people attending from our community, plus our lovely volunteers and staff.

“This party, which is full, has been organised by Halliwell Befriending Service and High Hopes for Halliwellbeing.“

The charity organise lots of community events for the people of Halliwell and surrounding areas.

A spokesman for the organisation added: “Most people that attend these types of events are over 50, some live alone.

“It’s a great opportunity to get together with our different groups and have a celebration.

“People can eat together, chat and feel less lonely.

“The feedback we get from these events is always that they want to attend more, they love making memories and feel more connected with their community.

“The coronation ceremony is a historic event, steeped in tradition and is one of the most significant events in our nation’s history, we want people to feel they are part of it, by providing a celebration event."

For the event, one volunteer has taken to knitting the King, which will be a raffle prize.

A spokesman said: “We also want to do a massive shout out to our wonderful volunteer, Jessie Brewer, who makes some fantastic stuff for our fundraising.

“She has knitted King Charles ready for his coronation! He is keeping the tea warm and even comes with a teapot.

"He will be raffled on the day to a lucky winner."
