An inquest has opened into the death of a 63-year-old who died in a car crash last month.

Ginette Therese Irene Daly from Bromley Cross died on March 30 this year, Bolton Coroners Court heard.

Coroner Dr Alan Walsh opened the inquest into the death of Mrs Daly, who was from France.

Dr Walsh explained that the retired tutor and wife to Paul Daly was, “driving on Darwen Road when she was hit head-on by another car.

“The car went to the other side of the road and Mrs Daly was airlifted to hospital.”

Mrs Daly was given life-saving treatment but had suffered catastrophic injuries in the crash and died on the same day.

A post-mortem was conducted by Dr Jamie Robinson at the Royal Oldham Hospital and samples were taken.

Dr Robinson gave the cause of death to be multiple injuries.

A police investigation is still underway into the crash.

Dr Walsh did not give an inquest hearing date but instead said a review would be held on June 9 where all samples and witness statements should be sent by, excluding a GMP statement until the investigation concludes.

Dr Alan Walsh said: “I offer my condolences and sympathies to the family.”

In a tribute to Mrs Daly, her family said her smile 'radiated with kindness".

The family said: “Ginette Daly (née Monbel) was a generous, loving mother and wife.

In a statement they said "She never ceased to put others before herself throughout her life.

"She built a strong family who love her enormously and who she loved unconditionally.

"She was the nucleus at the centre of our family and our lives, and gave us her patience and her love."
