A well-known longstanding Bolton business is closing its doors this weekend - so the family behind it can spend more time together.
Couple Donna Burcell and Julian Rickles set up Global Interiors in Astley Bridge 14 years ago - with Julian later moving to concentrating on their furniture business in Beverley, Yorkshire.
Working separately running both showrooms, Donna and Julian only saw each other every eight weeks, but as the lease was due to end at the Global Interiors Blackburn Road site, Donna decided to close up and spend more time with her family.
The move means Donna will spend more time in Beverley with Julian.
She said: “Julian is from Hull and his dad was a furniture manufacturer.
“I thought his furniture was amazing and there were not many places at the time that sold full pine furniture.
“So, we opened the first showroom in Botany Bay in Chorley which took off and I was travelling there from Hull every weekend while trying to raise a family at the same time.”
The family also had sites at Feniscowles, Dunscar Industrial Estate and at the Oswaldtwistle Mills.
In 2009, after Julian’s dad’s death, Julian took care of the manufacturing business and from 2011, the new showroom in Beverley.
Donna said: “We have always tried to pull the family back together but Global went from strength to strength.
“I knew the lease was finishing last year and had to make a decision and I think it’s the right thing to do to reconnect.”
The family are planning many holidays including one to Sicily and will miss the Bolton business.
Donna said: “I have been feeling really emotional because it’s something so final, but I chose this.
“It’s been up and down but I am looking forward to lots of time off.
“What I want now is time to sit in my garden and not panic about if I have enough staff in the shop today.”
Global Interiors is closing officially on Sunday 16 but will still operate at the Alexander Ellis store in Beverley.
