The family of a 76-year-old former artist who now has dementia and Alzheimer’s, are looking to find his lost artwork to help him regain some memories.

Thomas Pimbley from Horwich used to paint and draw in the 1970s and 1980s while also working as a painter and decorator.

His work includes a painting of the Horwich Loco Works, Horwich Reservoir, and a farmhouse that has since been demolished.

Mr Pimbley’s daughter, Jade said: “When he moved home, he gave so many away and lost some along the way.

“We only have five or six of them and do not know where the others are, but we want to see them.

The Bolton News:

“When I showed him a few, they were sparking memories for him, so if I can find others, he might remember what he did, where and who he knew.”

Mr Pimbley also painted animals on commission while racing greyhounds, as people he knew would ask him.

Jade would like to put on an exhibition with the works and to show her dad, so the artwork found would just be on loan.

She said: “He never thought he was any good, but people used to ask to buy them when he painted.

“He would hide them away and had some under his mattress, and when I used to find them and ask what it was, he’d say they were no good.

The Bolton News:

“It would be amazing if we found any because as a family, we just want to see what he painted and where they are now, and who might be enjoying them and show my dad how good he is.”

Mr Pimbley is no longer able to paint due to his condition.

He was part of the Horwich Art Society, where his work would be showcased.

Jade said: “A painting he did of a hotel made him remember that he used to go there as a boy.

“It would mean the world if we could show him other paintings he has done in an exhibition.

“We hope we can find a few just to see them.”

Mr Pimbley used watercolours, pens and pencils for his artwork.
