A Bolton charity is staging a cycling challenge towards the end of this month starting from Rivington – and they want riders to take part.
Lagan’s Foundation is offering three scenic routes for participants to choose from, with different lengths to suit a range of skill levels.
The shorter route on offer will be 27.2m, 47km, which is a shorter distance but will still include some more challenging hills like Steephouse and Anglezarke.
The standard route will be 44.2m which is equivalent to 71.3km and is a regular for cyclists who would like a challenge, this will include Sheephouse Lane, Anglezarke and a few surprise challenges.
Finally, the long route will see cyclists travel 66.1m, 106.4km, which is suitable for those taking part in bigger events such as Ironman or long-distance coast to coast events.
The inclines and declines of the long route are equivalent to scaling Ben Nevis.
The charity was set up in memory of Lagan, who died on April 26, 2011, aged just 15 weeks, after being born with complex congenital heart defects.
The event takes place each year around the weekend that Lagan passed away.
The aim of the charity is to provide home care and respite to families across the north west who have children with complex health needs, specialising in congenital heart defects and/or deeding difficulties.
Carren Bell, Founder of the charity, said: “We’re looking forward to seeing the challenge in its eighth year.
“We have purposely chosen a route which takes the cyclist uphill to represent the uphill battle that children with congenital heart defects face every day.
“Thanks to those who choose to participate, they will be supporting the charity to deliver further donated respite care to children aged 0-5 with Heart Defects and Feeding Issues across the region.”
The cost to participate ranges from £20-£30 if booked online and £25-£35 if booked in person on the day.
Every cyclist who completes their selected route will receive a bespoke medal and certificate with special trophies going to the first cyclist back on each route.
