It is Good Friday and the obligatory fish and chip supper is upon us.
We have compiled a list of places to enjoy the traditional meal today - both for those dining in and taking away.
Fish and chip takeaways
- Su’s Fish & Chips, Belmont Road
This chippy has been given a four out five rating and has received top reviews, with one review describing it as “the best chippy in Bolton and possibly the country”, after going there for around 30 years.
- Whiteside’s, Halliwell Road
This fish and chips takeaway has been given a four out five rating, with someone saying that they serve “properly cooked chips and crispy battered fish” which is always fresh.
- Mr Chips, Winter Hey Lane, Horwich
The fast-food takeaway also has the option for people to sit in and has been given a four out of five rating. One reviewer said it is the “best chippy for miles”, with another one saying that the fish chips were “lovely” and a good portion size.
- Reel Fish and Chips, Deane Road
The fish and chip takeaway has been given a four out five rating and has been billed as “the best place in Bolton” and described as “really fresh and tasty food - not at all oily or greasy for what it is”.
- Paul’s Chippy, Bury Road, Bolton
It has been given a four out of five rating on Trip Advisor and said to offer “decent fish and chips at a decent price”.
Five fish and chip restaurants
- Olympus Fish & Chip Restaurant, Bolton town centre
The award-winning fish and chip takeaway and restaurant has been going for 35 years and has been highly rated, with a 4.5 rating on Trip Advisor.
- The Thomas Egerton, Blackburn Road, Egerton
The pub offers a range of local cuisine, including typical pub options, with a 4 out of 5 rating. One reviewer said the battered Haddock and hand cut chips were “the best fish and chips” they had in a long time.
- Black Bull Pub, Bolton Road, Edgworth
This traditional pub has been given a 4 out of 5 rating and their fish and chips comes recommended, with many reviews loving the chunky chips and generous portion.
- Baker’s, Blackburn Road, Egerton
This award-winning coffee shop, bar and restaurant has proved to be a surprisingly popular choice for a fish and chip butty, and one reviewer saying they had the “best fish and chips ever”, which was a “very generous portion”.
- Bob’s Smithy Inn Country Pub and Dining, Chorley Old Road
The rural country pub has been highly rated, with a 4.5 out of 5 rating. One reviewer said the chips “were proper chips and the fish was huge”, with another describing the pub as friendly, with “excellent fish and chips”.
