A manager of a popular tearoom in one of the most visited scenic areas of Bolton says she is proud to run a dog friendly cafe after receiving a complaint criticising the policy.
Manager of the Village Green Tea Room Jayne Tolen says that it has been dog friendly place since her grandma Elsie Kent opened the business 40 years ago.
Jayne says that the complaint came as a ‘bit of a shock’ and there has never been an issue before and that most of the dogs that come in are well behaved.
Jayne said: “They are part of the family, and they can have a sausage when they come in.
“We have better behaved dogs than children sometimes.
“We have never had a complaint like this before.
“Everybody who comes in knows we are animal friendly, so it was a bit of a shock.”
The Village Green Tea Room took to social media to share their love of dogs after receiving a message suggesting that dogs and their owners should be seated outside.
The café expressed their pride over being a dog friendly café and said, “it will never change”.
They initially shared a picture of a complaint which said: “Just suggesting that owners and their dogs are seated outside.
“Customers without dogs feel like we’re sat in a dog kennel, not pleasant.”
The cafe fired back and said: “Absolutely hate when we receive messages like this.
“We are a dog friendly cafe and that will never change.”
Some fans of the Facebook page also shared their love of dogs, with pictures of their dogs in the comment section.
Jayne says that they welcome walkers, cyclists, dogs, ramblers, and anyone with muddy boots.
The café is located in one of the most scenic parts of Bolton, which is known for its views and walkers.
It is just a short drive from Rivington Pike, Rivington Terraced Gardens, and the Pigeon Tower.
Jayne added: “Everybody comes out with their dogs, and they know what to expect when coming in.”
There are some rules that dog owners have to adhere to however, with several signs around the tearoom.
Jayne said: “We have got signs up around the tearoom, saying ‘no badly behaved dogs or persistently barking’, ‘dogs while with owners should be on their leads’, and ‘no eating from plates’.”
The café has a wide-ranging menu including hot drinks, toasties, pies, breakfast options, and much more.
