New landlords have taken over a well-known pub in Breightmet with hopes of bringing the community together.
Couple Graham Wilson and Mandie Holland took over The Tansy Green after successfully running the White Horse in Harwood for just over three years.
Mandie and Graham made the decision to move on to a new a chapter and find something more suited to them.
The pub has already undergone some work to modernise it, including replacing the carpet and floors, with more work still taking place to improve the toilets, paint the bar, have new seating fitted and maintenance work in the kitchen.
Punters can also expect food in the near future, as plans are currently under way.
Mandie said: “It’s a massive opportunity, with such a big estate there, so we can bring everyone together.
“It’s all about the community.
“When we came into the pub, we knew it needed a change.
“Being in the middle of a housing estate means that people could at times feel lonely and cut off and we want them to feel like they have somewhere to go.”
During Covid when they were at the White Horse, Mandie made packed lunches for some of the local school children every day, as well as doing the same in Manchester.
The couple are planning to not only put a range of live events on, such as karaoke and professional singers, but also continue to do what they can in the community.
Graham said: “It’s about listening to what everybody wants around here.
“Everybody needs a second home where they can go and escape.”
Mandie says that it is especially important to her that people feel connected because she has gone through her own mental health battle.
She added: “It’s really important to me that people know there are people there because I have gone through my own struggle with mental health and it’s not easy.
“I want to hopefully get some coffee mornings together too because there is nowhere to go, especially for elderly people.”
Ward councillor Cllr Stuart Hartigan – who came to show his support – said: “They have a very strong relationship with the community, and the Mosley Arms also has a vibrant community pub.
“I believe this pub has got the making to be the same, which is good for the area.”
Mandie and Graham, who took over in December, have asked for anyone to get in touch with them if they have any old pictures of the pub, which is thought to have been built in the early 1980s.
