Bolton will be illuminated red and blue this evening in tribute to the borough's "hardworking and dedicated" social workers.

Today is World Social Work Day to highlight the importance of the profession and to recognise staff for their continued commitment.

The theme of this year’s World Social Work Day is ‘respecting diversity through joint social action’.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Anne Galloway said: “We are incredibly proud of Bolton’s outstanding social workers who always go above and beyond to support children, families, and adults.

“Our social workers are essential in supporting many of our residents to thrive and achieve their full potential.

“It is only right we take this occasion to highlight this valuable profession and thank those who make such a difference.”

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Cllr Andy Morgan, said:

“We are lucky in Bolton to have a strong working relationship across the public and voluntary sectors which allows us to collaborate in supporting our diverse communities.

“All year round, our social workers support people from all backgrounds to overcome the most challenging of circumstances.

“Today is a great opportunity to thank them, and to urge anyone considering becoming a social worker to find out more about this rewarding career.”
