Four dads have braved a 90-mile run in memory of a talented young Bolton Rugby Club player who tragically died at just 18-years-old.

Family friends of Bolton School student Cameron Milton, who died on March 29, 2022, raised money for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide to help encourage young people to open up about their mental health.

Bret Parker from Edgworth - who was joined on the walk with Adam Potts, James Moon, and Daniel Jemmett - said that the other dads on the walk have previously been on walks to raise awareness.

The friends raised  £4,288, after initially setting their target at just £200.

Bret said: “We had been planning it for a while and it took a bit of sorting out to get the right route and booking hotels.

“It’s very important to raise money for the charity because there is a big thing with young kids being affected by mental health issues.

“Getting kids to open up is the goal, because kids can bottle things up and talking to family and friends could help.”

Bret and the rest of the group made their way up to Bowness-on-Solway last Friday (March 17) before running the length Hadrian’s Wall and then Hexham.

After stopping over in Hexham, they ran to Newcastle over Tyne Bridge, and finished at Sandhaven Beach in South Shields.

They managed to complete a total of 52 miles after 13 hours on the Friday and 34 miles on Saturday, completing just under 90 miles.

Bret added: “The four of us wanted to do something small.

“We have run marathons and triathlons before; we just weren’t sure how two days would feel.

“Doing two days takes a bit of doing, so we weren’t a 100 per cent sure if we could do it.”

“The other dads have already raised awareness with walks before.

“We wanted to do our bit to make a difference, and hopefully the money will make a difference.”
