Town Hall chiefs will meet with transport bosses after traffic light failures on one of Bolton's busiest junctions.

Bolton Council’s highways and engineering department is to arrange a meeting with Transport for Greater Manchester over Blackburn Road, where months of roadworks have just come to an end.

The project was to improve the junction of Blackburn Road, Crompton Way and Moss Bank Way.

They created a left turn lane from Moss Bank Way onto Blackburn Road.

However since the completion numerous problems have been reported with the traffic lights since the works were completed.

On one occasion a fault which took place on a Friday was not repaired by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) until the following Monday.

Ward councillor Samuel Rimmer said: “Following the completion of works on the Astley Bridge junction of Blackburn Road and Moss Bank Way ward councillor have been inundated with complaints from residents about traffic lights failing, being out of sync with surrounding junctions and filter lights being stuck on red.

“Bolton Council Highway officers have been supporting ward colleagues and I but have often been hampered.

“Transport for Greater Manchester who operate and oversee the junction seem to have no interest in complaints raised by ward councillors or residents.”

Cllr Stuart Haslam, the cabinet member for highways and transport, said a meeting with TfGM would be arranged.

He said: “Officers in our highways and engineers division pass on all communications in relation to this junction and are working closely with colleagues in TfGM to resolve any issue.

“I can confirm that in the main reported defects have been promptly repaired however given the concerns you have raised officers in our highways and engineering department will be in contact with ward councillors to arrange a meeting to discuss any ongoing concerns with TfGM present.

“It was regrettable that a malfunction reported by councillors on a Friday was not repaired by TfGM until the following Monday.

“This was the important right turn into Moss Bank Way into Blackburn Road.

“This meeting will be an opportunity for councillors to express views on behalf of residents.”
