An iconic painting centred around football matchdays and sold for millions of pounds last year is set to be put on display at Bolton Museum.

The "Going to the Match" exhibition, which celebrates L.S. Lowry and Wanderers, has been created in partnership with The Lowry and the football club.

The centrepiece at the free exhibition will be Lowry’s well known painting Going to the Match.

It was recently put up for auction at Christie’s where it was purchased by The Lowry for a record £8.1m.

The purchase was made possible thanks to a generous gift from the Law Family Charitable Foundation.

The exhibition tours will be running from the end of this month offering people an hour of looking around.

Tours will be taking place on the last Saturday of every month at 11am on March 25, April 29, May 27, June 24.

They will also be taking place on the last Tuesday of every month at 1pm on March 28, April 25, May 30, June 20.
