Former Coronation Street star Victoria Ekanoye will be co-hosting a landmark occasion for a charity "very close" to her heart.

The Mummy’s Star Charity Ball will take place at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester on Saturday, June 17, celebrating the organisation's 10-year anniversary.

Mummy’s Star was founded in 2013 by Pete Wallroth in memory of his late wife and for 10 years it has provided support, in many different forms, to countless women across the country.

Victoria, 41, from Bury, who played Angie Appleton in the ITV soap from 2017 to 2019, will host the event along with TV presenter Jenny Powell.

She said: “Mummy’s Star is a charity very close to my heart after experiencing my own journey with breast cancer shortly after giving birth to my son Théo.

“I’m thrilled to be hosting their charity ball alongside the wonderful Jenny Powell, it’s going to be a magical evening and I hope lots of you can join us on the night!”

Coronation Street stars Katie McGlynn, who played Sinead before her onscreen death in October 2019, is a patron of Mummy's Star and will also be present.

She was hugely involved with the charity throughout Sinead's National Television Awards-winning cervical cancer storyline.

Katie said: “I’ve been a patron of Mummy’s Star since 2019.

“Pete and the charity were a huge support to myself during Sinead’s cervical cancer storyline at Corrie.

“What Mummy’s Star do for the many women and families they support is nothing short of amazing.”

The charity supports women diagnosed with cancer and their families.

It offers a range of services including emotional, practical, and financial support throughout pregnancy, birth, loss and beyond.

The organisation also deliver bespoke training and education to healthcare professionals to help raise awareness and ensure quicker and more accurate diagnoses.

The charity ball will honour 10 years of support and will act as a huge celebration of everything the charity has achieved, the many hurdles their families have overcome, while also remembering those who are very sadly no longer with us.

Mr Wallroth said: “We’re delighted to be able to mark 10 years of Mummy’s Star supporting families around the country in this rare and extremely challenging situation.

“It will be a night of celebration, reflection, and tribute to those most important- those who we’ve helped, those who have helped us become the charity we are, the amazing NHS staff who we work with, and remembering those wonderful families we have sadly lost.

“To have Jenny and Victoria host this for us is a fabulous indication of how we have touched people with our work and message about cancer and pregnancy.”

Tickets are limited and start at £75 per person.
