Ladies Day has arrived in Bolton and the odds are you are going to love it.
Just like the fabulous characters in Amanda Whittington's comedy, it is a chance to escape everyday life just for a couple of hours.
Ladies Day is a thoroughly heartwarming and poignant production set in 2005 when York Racecourse hosted Royal Ascot as its venue was closed for work.
We join an absolutely fantastic cast as the swap their caps, overalls and wellies at the fish packaging factory for fascinators and heels for a day at the races in this colourful, joyful and at times emotional production.
The Octagon's round is the perfect setting for this play as the audience feel very much they are at the races with friends - a cast of five very talented actors who bring this uplifting show to the stage.
It opens in a workplace, in this case a fish factory, but it could be any workplace, as everyone in the audience will recognise their colleagues - if not themselves - in the characters.
Gareth Cassidy, who plays the role of six characters, is an absolute joy to watch as he swaps from jockey to TV racing presenter - his ability to take on different accents and roles within in minutes is incredible.
It is hard to believe the cast of four women have not been friends for years given how strong the bond seems on stage.
Annie Kirkham portrayal of Shelley, who dreams of fame and money, is laugh out loud and moving at the same time, Kate Wood who plays Pearl is a moving reminder that women are not just defined by their children or home life - whatever their age. Tanya-Loretta Dee reflects the strength of so many women who make sacrifices for their children.
Linda's story played by Jo Patmore's is shocking as it is inspirational.
At the heart of this story is the friendship between the four, there is nothing maudlin about this play. It is about friendship, fun and support - which we can all relate to.
The soundtrack will almost have you dancing in your seat, especially Amarillo.
Ladies Day is a strong contender for the most feel good show of 2023 - and it is only March.
So ladies grab your pals, your partner and enjoy the glamour of the races - and blokes don't miss out on this fantastic show, I can guarantee you will love it too!.
Ladies Day runs until April 1.
