A Bolton-based homeless charity is calling on the public to donate Easter eggs for families who are struggling.

Homeless Aid UK is hoping to give out thousands of Easter eggs to underprivileged children and those suffering with health issues, as well as homeless people and the elderly.

The yearly appeal is one of many that the charity runs in line with different festivals, including Christmas, Eid, and Diwali.

Billa Ahmed, co-founder of Homeless Aid UK, said: “A lot of these elderly people that we go to, most of them are lonely and they don’t have families.

“Especially with the cost of living crisis a lot of people are feeling the pinch, we want to be there for them. Especially the Bolton family, we’re gonna be there for them, and let them know that we are there and there are people there that care.”

Billa says the number of people using the charity’s soup kitchen has increased as a result of the cost of living crisis.

Homeless Aid UK also supplies food hampers and clothing to those living in poverty both in Bolton and across the UK.

The charity has identified people in need through the soup kitchen as well as schools and community groups, but encourages those who would benefit from a donation to get in touch.

Billa said: “The community is coming together to look after the community of Bolton. A lot of people are struggling, a lot of people are lonely.

“So even if you don’t help us, help people in your local area. Go to your neighbours, go to any elderly, vulnerable people that might be lonely, go and speak to them, see if they’re okay, and maybe give them just a kind gesture.

"We want them to feel loved, and know that there is people there who care for them."

He emphasised that these acts of generosity within the community should not just be for Easter but something that is extended all year round, and praises the hard work of his fellow volunteers.

Those who wish to donate an Easter egg can drop off at SureStore Storage BL2 1HL, and/or call 0800 1244641 for more information.

The cut off date for donations is March 31.
