A van driver has been arrested after a crash involving a motorcycle left a man with ‘life changing injuries.’

The crash is believed to have happened between a Mercedes Sprinter and a motorbike on Lavender Road, Farnworth at around 11.40am on Tuesday March 7.

Police and other emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the scene and officers have launched an investigation to establish how the collision occurred.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “The driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving

“Collision investigators are appealing for information after a motorcyclist suffered life-changing injuries in a crash in Bolton.

“The 32-year-old man was riding along Lavender Road, Farnworth, when he was in collision with a Mercedes Sprinter at about 11:40am on 7 March 2023.

“He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries.

“The driver of the van was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and has since been released on bail.”

A significant police presence was reported on the scene around midday on Tuesday on the corner of Lavender Road and Begonia Avenue.

The area was cordoned off and traffic was diverted. 

Other emergency services, including an air ambulance were called to the scene.

After the accident, a crowd had gathered and witnesses reported seeing the emergency services at work. 

A local resident said: "There was a crowd of people.

"I could see the motorcyclist on the floor covered in a blanket and with people around him.

"He looked in a lot of pain.

"An air ambulance landed at the Cricket Club, I helped flag it down.

"It happened at around noon."

The police kept the cordon in place until long into the evening before the road was eventually reopened.
