Three men have been found not guilty of wounding with intent after an alleged "revenge attack" on another man who has since been convicted of murder.
But a fourth man has been found guilty after Anthony George, 42, was seriously assaulted on December 11, 2021 in apparent retaliation after he fatally stabbed Tyrone Williamson on Battenburg Road that same evening.
George, of no fixed abode, has since been convicted of murdering Mr Williamson, while four men were later brought before Manchester Crown Court accused of wounding with intent for alleged retaliatory attack.
Opening the prosecution at the start of the trial, Jaime Hamilton KC said: “At some point, George received a number of stab wounds from a knife.
“Where that knife came from, who it belonged to and who used it to inflict injury may be amongst the issues in this case.”
But following a trial that lasted several weeks, three of the four men Nathan Carney-Williamson, 30, of Battenberg Road, Roy Meanley, 29, of Rowenna Street and Thomas Lynch, 35, of Walley Street have all been found not guilty by the jury.
But a fourth man, 27-year-old Brendan Carney of Cloister Street, has been found guilty.
Two other men had already pleaded guilty to wounding with intent after the attack on George.
But during the trial the court also heard from the defence how none of the four men on trial had allegedly taken a knife to the scene.
Julian Goode, defending Carney-Williamson, made this point when cross examining Detective Sergeant Daniel Woods earlier during proceedings.
Addressing the officer, he said: “The six men we know walked along Lincoln Road heading towards a confrontation with Anthony George, is there any evidence to suggest any of these men were in possession of a knife?”
The police officer said there was “no knife shown” in the footage.
Mr Goode then asked: “There is evidence to suggest Anthony George had a knife.
“We know he stabbed, and it became fatal, Tyrone Williamson.”

DS Woods replied: “He had a knife at the time on Lincoln Road.”
Having heard all the evidence over the course of nearly a month, the jury decided to convict Carney while acquitting the other three defendants.
Carney will be brought back before the court on March 10 for a date to be fixed for his sentencing hearing.
