Every child matters at a Bolton primary school.
And for that matter so do the staff and the community it serves.
The Valley School in Bolton has achieved the Inclusive School Award, which reflects the work that is carried out to ensure every child to develop academically and as young citizens.
The Inclusion Quality Mark Award provides UK schools with a nationally recognised validation of their inclusive practice and ongoing commitment to developing educational inclusion - so no child is left behind.
The awarding body IQM stated: "School leaders are highly ambitious for pupils and hold each other to account in ensuring children attain high academic standards, but also are well prepared to make a strong contribution to the community in which they live.
"The curriculum is well developed and supports children into their next phase of education. Pupil progress meetings focus on individuals as well as groups to ensure that no opportunities are missed to close gaps in learning."
Lessons were described as engaging, and staff wellbeing is seen 'as important' at the school.
"All in all, our Assessor said they thoroughly enjoyed their day at The Valley and was blown away by its commitment to high standards of inclusive practice," stated the report.
Staff were said to speak very highly of the support they received on joining The Valley.
Headteacher Kevan Naughton said, “This latest award professionally validates what the whole school continually strives to achieve – which is giving every child what they need to thrive and succeed.
“Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, so to be nationally recognised for these efforts is wonderful for all of our pupils, staff, governors and parents. The report captures all of the strengths and values of our unique school community.
“The assessor said they had never been in a mainstream school where the ethos of special educational needs is so visible. This says it all! We focus on high academic achievement for all of our pupils, but we do so through highly inclusive practices in a supportive, engaging environment.
