A children's nursery is to shut within a matter of days.

Beechwood Private Nursery School in Bromley Cross is blaming financial difficulties.

Parents were told on Friday the nursery was closing this Friday and The Bolton News was told that the nursery was  going into liquidation.

A spokesperson for the nursery said it has been struggling financially since the cost-of-living crisis began.

But the spokesperson declined to comment further.

The nursery is the latest to close or be earmarked for closure.

Local authority run Alexandra Nursery in Daubhill is proposed for closure due to falling numbers, but no final decision has been made.

Currently there are 48 children on roll at Beechwood Nursery School and there are 13 members of staff, according to the latest Ofsted report, in which it was marked inadequate.

In the report, dated November 2022, Ofsted officers reported that the health and safety of the nursery was ‘poor’ and the staff were not fully quipped at keeping children safe.

Inspectors said: “Leaders and staff do not demonstrate a secure knowledge and understanding of how to keep children safe.

"Risks are not minimised appropriately for children.

“Safety precautions to prevent children from trapping their fingers in a doorway have been broken for some time.

"Despite the manager bringing this to the provider's attention, they have not been swiftly repaired.”

The report also listed concerns over cleanliness as mats where children slept were damaged and not cleaned properly.

However, there were some good points with the provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities was found to be ‘good.’

The nursery opens on Monday to Friday, all year round from 7am to 6pm.

Beechwood was established in 1984 as a children’s day-care and pre-school education centre and can care for up to 60 children aged two-four.

The nursery employs 13 members of childcare staff and of these, seven staff hold recognised early years qualifications at level three or above.

Alexandra Nursery could close as early as August this year.

It is an Ofsted rated good nursery, with its most recent inspection report stating, ‘children love their nursery.’
