Funding has been secured to fix potholes on a road that has been ‘deteriorating’ for years.
Nicola Saxon who lives on Armadale Road on the Ladybridge estate has welcomed the news and said that it is an area that is in bad condition that has become dangerous.
However, she says it has previously been promised and should have been done years ago.
Cllr Andy Morgan, who represents Heaton and Lostock, says that he has continued to put pressure on the highways department for ‘quite a while’.
Nicola added: “It’s a start, but it’s only a small section of the road not the full road.
“There are also other areas on the estate, which are in a similar position, and when funding will be available for those I don’t know.
“It has declined a lot since December because of the bad weather.
“It needs to be done because the area is particularly bad and dangerous.”
Nicola said that it has become so bad that drivers are driving on the opposite side of the road to avoid the potholes.
She added: “There have been a couple of near misses.
“It has been getting worse and worse, and has become dangerous for elderly people.
“We used to have a lovely view, but now people have anxiety on the estate looking for potholes.”
Cllr Morgan says that around £40k will be spent to fill the potholes, and a form of screeding known as Masterscreed, will then be applied across the whole surface.
He added: “Residents helped raise the issue, as well as myself looking at a scheme to get Armadale Road to the top of the pile for highways.
“The age of the road has brought it to the end of its natural life, with it being built in the 70s, and I know it has been deteriorating before our eyes.
“As ward councillors we know it is used as a cut through on to Beaumont Road Road and Wigan Road, so it is used quite a lot.
“We have prioritised the local needs and put pressure on Highways for quite a while to get something done.”
The initial phase will start from Armadale Road from the junction with Broadford Road, down to Sandray Close.
The work is expected to start on March 20, depending on the weather.
More updates are expected to follow, and Cllr Morgan says he will continue to raise the issue with the Highways team, and that the scheme will hopefully be extended when more funds are identified.
