The Sixth Form Bolton celebrates students' Oxbridge offers

Two students at The Sixth Form Bolton have received Oxbridge offers.

Grace Higginson who has received a coveted offer from the University of Oxford.

The former Turton High School pupil competed against students from across the UK to secure an offer to study law at the prestigious St Anne’s College.

Grace, who is studying A-level English literature, history and politics said, “It has always been my goal to go to university so to receive an offer to study at one the best universities in the world is a wonderful feeling. The staff at college really supported me and offered me a lot of help with my application”.

Another student celebrating an impressive offer is former St. Mary's Catholic High School pupil Philippa Lloyd.

Pippa is currently excelling in A-level mathematics, further mathematics and economics.

She has received an offer from the University of Cambridge to study economics at St Catharine’s College.

Pippa said: “The build up to the 25th January (offer day) was filled with mixed emotions, as a lot of work was put in by myself and those around me. Not only did I feel thankful and proud, but receiving an offer has given me a boost of motivation to continue working hard.”

Grace and Pippa are part of The Sixth Form’s aspirational Honours Programme, a bespoke programme designed for the most able students who are aspiring to attend the very best universities. The Honours Programme helps to stretch and challenge students, alongside cultivating competency in critical thinking and leadership.

Grace said, “I have really enjoyed being on the Honours Programme. It has been very enjoyable to be in a group of academic people, and having the opportunity to learn a lot through discussion. It definitely benefitted me during my university application as everyone was in the same boat applying to competitive universities. I would definitely recommend it to prospective students.”

Pippa added: “I was given the opportunity to visit St John’s College at Cambridge University where we stayed in student accommodation and attended lectures. Regarding personal statement support, I reached out to many teachers who were willing to go over and help me redraft it until it reflected my achievements and passion for the subject.

"The support I have received since the start of Year 12 has been extremely valuable and I’m very grateful for all those involved.”

Many other students at The Sixth Form are also celebrating receiving offers from a wide range of universities, including The University of Manchester, The University of Law and Lancaster University.

Last year, over 500 students secured places at universities across the country and progressed on to study courses that could lead them to achieve their long-term career goals.
