A Radcliffe furniture shop worker has had her hair shaved off to back a cause which helps people suffering with their mental health.

Samantha Babington, a customer service advisor at Dunelm in Radcliffe, took up the challenge to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

She had the charity chop at the Green Street store and raised an impressive £400 after collecting sponsorship money from generous friends, family and customers.

Samantha’s supporters joined her on the day to cheer her on and her son helped to shave sections of her hair.

A total of 15.5 inches of Samantha’s hair was donated to The Little Princess Trust, which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer or treatments.

The store also organised a raffle on the day which amassed an extra £100 for the charity.

Samantha said: “Every day I hear of so many people battling with their mental health which does not discriminate between gender, age or lifestyle.

“I wanted to do something that would test me as a person and I’m proud that I have taught my son the value of doing things for others and that you should never judge a person before you know their story, listen and most importantly talk to someone.

“I would like to thank the team at Dunelm for supporting me and for helping to raise much needed funds for such an incredible charity.”

Mind is a Dunelm charity partner, with the two organisations working together to help raise funds for the cause in England and Wales.

The partnership also raises money for affiliated mental health charities, SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) in Scotland and Inspire in Northern Ireland.

As part of the collaboration, Dunelm has set a fundraising goal of £1m through a host of activities.

Store coach at Radcliffe's Dunelm shop, Helen Hodson, added: “It has been a pleasure to support Samantha in her charity head shave, we can see how much this means to her and the whole team is incredibly proud.

“We are so pleased to be able to donate to such incredible charities, the support both Mind and The Princess Trust offer is truly inspiring.”
