An immaculately manicured lawn in front of one of Bolton’s much missed buildings.
Taken in July 1967, this photo shows the old conservatory in Queens Park which stood between the sunken garden and the promenade.
Housing exotic plants such as cacti and banana trees, the conservatory also had a small pond filled with goldfish. The building was later used as the home for Butterfly World before it was closed and demolished.
The park itself was originally called Bolton Park but in honour of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee year was renamed Queens Park in 1897. Do you remember the old conservatory? Email robert.kelly@nqnw.co.uk or leave a comment
