A community shop offering reduced or free school supplies is re-opening in March.

The Community Locker in Breightmet is run by two mums, Helen Norwood and Angela Barry.

It serves as a hub for struggling families to buy school essentials for their children without breaking the bank.

Helen and Angela started the group when the cost-of-living crisis began to grow.

Items sold includes most of what children need at school, including uniforms, shoes, coats, trainers, PE kits, maths sets and calculators, stationary, lunch boxes, water bottles and backpacks.

The Community Locker was closed for a short period of time.

The Bolton News:

Angela previously told The Bolton News: “We also give out toiletries and sanitary products and they will always be free.

"We want to make sure that children don’t not go to school because they’re worried about their appearance and hygiene.”

“The majority of donations have come from people, either buying new or donating old items that have been grown out of.”

In 2021, the pair had been running the initiative on a voluntary basis, but they recently secured funding which means that Helen remunerated for 10 hours a week, meaning she can dedicate more time to it.

Angela said: “It was really successful last year, and we wanted to roll it out bigger this year.”

The shop will be open every Thursday from March 2 at 9.30-11.30am.
