A business in Bolton has been fined for the use of an illegal worker.

The UK government regularly issues reports which lists penalties given out to enterprises which break the rules regarding workers from abroad.

And in the recent one a Bolton eatery was among those listed.

The Kani Restaurant on Derby Street was hit with a fine of £10,000.

No others details were revealed by the Government, including if it was one or more than one illegal worker being employed.

It was the only business in the town to penalised.

There were 13 businesses in the north west region penalised, with £30,000 being the maximum being given out.

The owner of the Kani Restaurant was approached for a comment.

The unit is run by Bapeer Limited.

The company was incorporated in May of 2021.

Its headquarters were listed as being at the same spot as the restaurant.

The most recent hygiene rating given to the business was two our of five stars.

It was given this ranking in September last year following an inspection.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Illegal working undercuts honest employers, puts vulnerable migrants at risk of exploitation, cheats legitimate job seekers out of employment and defrauds the public purse.

“Tackling this damaging crime is a key Government priority.

“The government is bringing forward a New Plan for Immigration that is fair but firm, which will stop the abuse of the system and expedite the removal of those who have no right to be here.”

The government warns: "Your business’s details may be published by Immigration Enforcement as a warning to other businesses not to employ illegal workers."

Guidelines state it is up to the employer to make sure prospective worker has the right to work in the UK before hiring them.

Changes brought in as a result of Covid mean a boss can receive documents proving someone has the right to work in the UK digitally.

If an applicant cannot show documents an employer must to check with the Home Office on their immigration status.
