Bolton will be showcased worldwide as a horror filmed in town is now available to watch on Netflix.
Red Rose was a huge hit when it aired on the BBC last August, having had its premiere at The Light Cinema in the Market Place.
Red Rose was not only filmed throughout the town and writers Paul and Michael Clarkson – twins who went to Thornleigh Salesian College – made sure to showcase their hometown in the series.
Inspiration for the storyline and characters in the horror series came from the twins’ experience of growing up in Bolton.
They have previously described the show as a “love letter” to their hometown.
In a joint statement on Red Rose being available on Netflix the pair said: “We had no idea we’d one day be capturing our lives in a television show, let alone that it would be out on Netflix worldwide.

“We’ve been inspired by our family and friends and the people of Bolton we’ve met over the years.
“We’re proud of our working-class background and are so excited to share it with the world because the world needs more working-class stories right now.
“Behind each character you come to love in our show stands a real-life inspiration. So, enjoy it.

“It’s rooted in real love for the complexities of growing up in a world that has darkness and the light that helps you survive and fight it.”
Back in 2021, Red Rose film crews descended on Bolton, and their presence was noticed right around the borough.
In the town centre filming took place on Bridge Street, Churchgate, and Le Mans Crescent for its dramatic finale.
They also captured footage at a house on Church Road between Farnworth and Kearsley, as well as sightings at Queens Park and in Westhoughton.
And crews also took shots at a quarry near Scouts Road.
The twins were also insistent that the show be premiered in their hometown.
