A vehicle fire has caused severe delays on the M60 clockwise near Bolton this evening.

Firefighters were called just after 5pm today (Tuesday February 14) following reports of a vehicle on fire between J14, Bolton.

Three fire engines from Stretford, Whitefield, and Farnworth rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze.

They were on the scene for around an hour.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 5pm on Tuesday 14 February, fire crews were called to reports of a vehicle fire on the M60 clockwise between junctions 14 and 15.

“Three fire engines from Stretford, Whitefield and Farnworth fire stations quickly attended the incident.

"Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and helped make the area safe.

“GMFRS crews were in attendance for about an hour.”

This has resulted in lanes 1,2 and 3 of 4 still remaining closed just before 9pm on the M60 clockwise between J13 Swinton and J14 Bolton to allow vehicle recovery and a clean-up.

Drivers have been advised to allow extra time before travelling, with around 30-minute delays expected and four miles of congestion.

The M6 was also closed following an earlier crash between J26 and J27 Wigan, with an air ambulance on the scene.

Police have been approached for comment.
