Bolton star Amir Khan's charity and another cause have teamed up with an airline to supply 10 tonnes of aid to Turkey after the devastating earthquakes last week.

The Amir Khan Foundation and One Family Global are working with Turkish Airlines to deliver the vital goods to families affected by the disaster as part of the Emergency Turkey Appeal.

The first of the partnership’s cargo planes will leave at the end of next week, carrying critical relief supplies after earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6.

More than 35,000 people have died following the tragedy with buildings and homes left destroyed.

Earlier this week, retired boxer Khan's foundation also said it was working with One Family Global in support of Turkish Red Crescent, the largest and oldest humanitarian aid organisation in Turkey, who are on the ground across the 10 worst-hit provinces.

The foundation and One Family Global have a long-established relationship with the Turkish Red Crescent, with the UK charities having previously supported humanitarian aid programmes in Turkey, Syria and Somalia.

Khan said: "Like a lot of people, I haven’t been able to tear my eyes away from the images and videos coming out of Turkey and Syria.

"The situation is truly devastating.

“My team have been mobilising to determine the best course of action, and I am so pleased we’ve managed to band together across borders and find efficient solutions for the delivery of aid to those who need it most.”

The former world champion boxer has also been sharing his thoughts on social media and urging people to donate to a JustGiving page.

Chairman of One Family Global, Sharif Banna MBE, added: “Anyone in the humanitarian sector knows how difficult it is to manage in emergency and disaster zones.

“This is the worst earthquake in Turkey’s history, and the scale of the damage is unprecedented. I am hopeful that this bilateral partnership will see the on-going support of Turkey with weekly aid deliveries.”

The UK charities are now seeking corporate sponsors for critical relief supplies, including blankets, thermal clothing, canned foods and hygiene products.

A full list of required supplies can be sought from the charities directly. For non-corporate sponsors, the joint emergency Turkey appeal can be accessed via the JustGiving page by clicking here.
