A man in his 50s was arrested after 'an incident' which involved 'a bladed article' in Bolton town centre.

Officers were called to Newport Street at around 5pm on Monday, a police spokesperson said.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He has been released without bail and an investigation has been started.

But no serious injuries have been reported, a police spokesperson said.

In a statement, they told The Bolton News: "Greater Manchester Police were called to an incident on Newport Street at around 5pm yesterday (Monday).

"A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and he has since been released without bail.

"No serious injuries have been reported with an investigation ongoing."
